Walk and Talk
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your mental health is step outside.
Walk & Talk therapy is exactly what it sounds like — instead of sitting across from each other in an office, we walk together through the outdoors in Martinez while we talk. It's still real therapy, with the same depth, intention, and care. It just happens to come with fresh air, movement, and a little more room to breathe.
Why walking works
There's something that happens when you start moving your body — your nervous system begins to settle. The rhythm of walking activates your body's natural regulation response, making it easier to access and process emotions that might feel stuck or overwhelming when you're sitting still. For women who live with anxiety, perfectionism, or chronic overwhelm, this can be a genuine game-changer.
Research consistently shows that time in nature reduces cortisol levels, lowers the nervous system's stress response, and improves mood. Even a short walk outdoors can shift your mental state in ways that sitting inside simply can't replicate. When we combine that with meaningful therapeutic conversation, something really powerful happens.
The benefits of Walk & Talk therapy
Movement is regulating. Walking engages your body's natural rhythm and helps calm an overactivated nervous system — making it easier to process difficult emotions, think clearly, and feel more grounded.
Nature is healing. Being outside reduces stress hormones, lifts mood, and creates a sense of expansiveness that can make heavy topics feel more manageable.
Side-by-side feels different. There's something about not sitting face-to-face that makes it easier to open up. Many clients find that the words come more naturally when they're walking and talking rather than sitting and being watched.
Your body is part of the work. If we're working on nervous system regulation, boundaries, or anxiety — doing it while your body is literally practicing regulation makes the learning stick deeper.
It's in-person connection. There is something irreplaceable about being physically present with another person. In-person sessions allow for a level of attunement and connection that supports real, lasting healing.
Who Walk & Talk therapy is a great fit for
Walk & Talk sessions tend to resonate especially with women who feel restless or find it hard to settle into a traditional therapy setting, those who are drawn to movement as part of their wellness routine, and anyone who has ever felt more like themselves after a walk outside. If you struggle with anxiety, overthinking, or feeling disconnected from your body, the combination of movement, nature, and therapeutic support can be particularly powerful.
You don't need to be athletic or outdoorsy. You just need to be willing to show up and walk.
What to expect
We meet at a designated starting point in Martinez and walk together for your session. Sessions are the same length as a standard therapy appointment. I ask that you wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather — everything else I'll take care of. Confidentiality is always a priority, and we'll navigate our route with that in mind.
Walk & Talk sessions are available on a limited basis. If this feels like the right fit for you, mention it when you reach out and we'll find a time that works.
